The Michigan Wolverines open the season with a home-and-home series against the Bowling Green Falcons. Game one will be in Ann Arbor on Friday, and game two will be in Bowling Green.
The home opener will give us our first chance to see what this year’s Wolverines are all about. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, there are a lot of returning players to the team. We know what to expect from these guys for the most part. Hopefully, a few will surprise us with some improvement from the offseason.
For the handful of new guys, this will be their first impression on us. I would say expectations are high for guys like DuPont, Reid, and Hurlburt to perform well right out of the gate, but best to try to tame those expectations this weekend. If they don’t fill the scoresheet right away, no need to worry. Once they get their feet wet, I’m confident they’ll impress. It could take a period or two; it could take a game or two. The point is, don’t panic if it’s a slow weekend for them.
Bowling Green is not a very intimidating opponent on paper. Michigan outclasses them in every position and should handle this matchup without much trouble. Anything can still happen, but I predict a series sweep for the Wolverines.
It’s great to have Michigan hockey back! Let’s start the season strong. Go Blue!
